The Montagnola Etruscan Tomb in Florence
About 15 kilometres from Florence, Sesto Fiorentino, an archaeological area is located between the most important discoveries in the last 50 years: the Etruscan tomb of Cemetery Hill. It is composed from a corridor (dromos) covered in fake time, two mock cells and a tholos cupola with central pillar. Nearby, the "Tomba della Mula" (via della Mula, 2), to the mound, with on top of a polygonal cell embattled. Compared to other graves to cupola – for example, those of Populonia – stand out not only for the circular main room, but above all for their exceptional size: 5 feet in diameter to the Montagnola Tomb, more than 8 to the Mule, which involve technically constructive difficulty and stability.
