San Gaetano Church Florence Guided Tours
The Church of Santi Michele e Gaetano, more often called simply San Gaetano, is one of the most important examples of Baroque style in Florence. Documented in the 11th century, there was a radical overhaul in the seventeenth century by Matteo Nigetti. The noble families of the entourage of the Ducal Court, undertaken to achieve around via Tornabuoni is one of the most magnificent areas in the city, were hoping with San Gaetano to create the most beautiful baroque church in Florence. It is a joy for the eyes, a spectacular «» visual support to the faithful in the liturgical mystery for centuries used during the most solemn ceremonies. The staircase on which rises the façade was rebuilt in 1701 and designed by Carlo Marcellini. The Interior is one of the rare remaining intact Baroque Florentine.
